No one was really surprised that the Rapture didn’t occur when it was predicted. It was all so silly. He predicted not only the day, but the time it was supposed to happen. He had some sort of “scientific” reading of the Bible that made him privy to that sort of knowledge. Now he admits that he was mistaken and predicts the end will come in the fall. SOme people never learn.
The bigger lesson to be learned here is that the more specific you get about religious things, the more likely you are to be wrong. Saying the Rapture will happen is defendable, saying it will happen at 6PM is not. Along those same lines, saying that God is
Humans want things to be understandable, want them to be cut and dried, and most importantly, want them to be understandable. God isn’t human (thank goodness!) and what He is about is going to be impossible for us to put into words, let alone explain. Some people keep combing through the Bible for the time of the Rapture, they would be much better off dealing with ambiguity. Looking for neat answers to something infinitely complex is a fool’s errand.
